From local analogy to cross-domain mappings

DMT’s adoption of the Grammatical Concordance Hypothesis depends on the use of local analogy. DMT does not extend this form of analogy to a hypothesis about the use of cross-domain mapping on the basis of the activation of conceptual metaphors. This is because, at this moment, conceptual metaphors do not have a clear  position and role in the model for DMT that is available at this moment, unless it is assumed that our conceptual system is fully activated during comprehension (which goes against the Graded Salience Hypothesis).

Whether local analogy is facilitated or elaborated during post-comprehension by cross-domain mapping or not is another issue. This is how DMT would read the proposals by Gibbs …
