Metaphor research in DMT is here displayed in a way that addresses master students and researchers across many disciplines, including philosophy, linguistics, psychology, and communication science (but also theology, poetics, rhetoric, and so on). It may help master students and researchers in finding materials, determine directions, and collect up-to-date information. The site is hence primarily academic. Its purpose is to facilitate discussion of DMT in all its aspects, in order to enable constructive criticism and improvement.
At this moment the site is in its first version. All metaphor researchers are invited to send corrections, comments, suggestions, and questions (info@metaphorinaction.nl). An attempt will be made to send you a brief reply within two working days to tell you what will happen with your message.
Researchers working with DMT can also send in proposals for the two blogs that are incorporated:
Metaphor in action: Short personal pieces with observations about deliberate versus non-deliberate metaphor use in concrete cases (500 words max).
DMT in action:Â Short personal pieces with reflections on the way DMT addresses specific problems in metaphor research, be it theoretical, methodological, empirical, or applied (500 words max).
All new posts can be replied to by other metaphor enthusiasts—for now, all pages of the site are open to anybody. All replies will be monitored before they can be published.
If the website garners some real traffic and interaction, we can discuss other ways in which it can be further developed in the future. We can think of adding illustrative analyses, teaching materials, or opportunities for having more extended discussions of theory and method. In this way, the site could turn into the shared and active property of a genuine DMT community, with many of you adding to or utilizing its content.
This is also why you are encouraged to send in details of events at which you present work in or on DMT, so that they can be included in the calendar of the website. Idem with the bibliography and with the news items on the home page: when you get something published that includes work on or in DMT, let us know and it will be advertised on the site.
